Running Backs

Before you freak out, make sure you check out the following slide.

We wanted a full stable of horses at the RB position and as many know, the ‘Canes had some serious Clydesdales.

Ottis Anderson

Anderson played at Miami from 1975 to 1978 and pretty much broke every standing rushing record there.

During his tenure as a ‘Cane, Anderson rushed for 3,331 yards (4,265 all-purpose yards) and 15 rushing touchdowns, rushing for over a 1,000 yards his senior season (rushing over 100 yards in 8 out of 11 games). In his senior season, he was an All-American by both the Football Coaches Association and The Sporting News.

Anderson was drafted by the Saint Louis Cardinals in 1979 in the first round (8th overall) and became the NFL Rookie of the Year.

He was later traded to the New York Giants where he helped them become two-time Super Bowl Champions (XXI; XXV) and was even named a Super Bowl MVP (XXV). During 14 seasons playing in the NFL, Anderson also went to the Pro Bowl twice.

He was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 and inducted into the UM Ring of Honor in 1999.

Edgerrin James

James played at The U from 1996 to 1998 and was First-Team All-BIG EAST following his final season.

Despite only starting 17 games, James is still the only Hurricane running back to post consecutive 1,000 (plus) rushing yards per season (1997 & 1998).

He was drafted in the first round (4th overall) by the Indianapolis Colts in 1999 and was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

During his 11 seasons in the NFL, James was a four-time Pro Bowler, a member of the 10,000 Rushing Yards Club (like Ottis Anderson), two-time NFL Rushing Champion and a First-Team All-Pro (1999).

James was inducted into the Colts Ring of Honor in 2012 and inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
