The Hurricanes have always been trend-setters.
It all started at the Orange Bowl in the 1950s in an attempt to get fans more interested in the football team. According to the University of Miami website, the smoke began by Bob Nalette, the transportation director, using fire extinguishers to blow the smoke in front of the entrance tunnel.
The “Hurricane Smoke” has now become one of the greatest traditions throughout college football.
