A New Coaching Staff

I couldn’t be more excited about Mark Richt and the new staff.

Sure, it’s hard to see certain old faces go. But with the lack of success in the past decade, major changes needed to occur.

Now we have a proven winner (in the toughest conference, the SEC) in Mark Richt.

And what added additional icing to his hire was that he played quarterback for The U (and now wants to coach the quarterbacks). Thus, you know there’s even more incentive for him to win now that he’s back at his alma mater.

With that said, he added a nice mix of coaches with great track records in the SEC. Plus, he added former Miami safety Mike Rumph and former FSU/NFL receiver Ron Dugans as assistants.

Thanks to players such as Duke Johnson, Phillip Dorsett, Brad Kaaya  Lamar Miller, Travis Benjamin, Greg Olsen, Allen Hurns, Jimmy Graham, Leonard Hankerson and Graig Cooper, Miami’s offense has maintained its level of production we’ve come to know. But, it’s been the defense that’s been somewhat a sight for sore eyes (and something we weren’t used to seeing).

However, on defense, Richt and DC Manny Diaz plan to implement an attacking style 4-3 defense. It’s about time!

As a player on defense (at Miami), you’ll finally be able to use your athleticism, strength and motor to destroy opposing offenses. Older Miami defensive schemes (especially under D’Onofrio) seemed to hold back the athlete.

Regarding the offense, there should be no drop off. All you have to do is take a look at the level of play at Georgia, year after year. I’m sure Matthew Stafford, Todd Gurley, A.J. Green, Knowshon Moreno and Mohamed Massaquoi weren’t complaining.
