Marielle Ahoure- Track and Field

Ahoure ran in the eighth of nine heats in the first round. She finished second in her heat to American Tori Bowie. Her time of 22.52 was good enough to advance to the semifinals. Ahoure’s time was sixth out of 72 competitors in the semis.

She ran a 22.59 in the semifinals. If Ahoure could have duplicated her sixth place finish she would have qualified for the finals.  Ahoure missed qualification by 12/100’s of a second to eighth place Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain who had the highest qualifying time for the finals with a 22.47.

Three other runners finished in front of Ahoure in the semifinals. That placed her 12th overall in the standings. A very impressive finish out of the 72 runners in the field.

Ahoure began her Rio sojourn in the 100 meters last Friday. She finished second in the first preliminary heat with a time of 11.17. That was ninth overall and good enough to qualify for the semifinals. Unlike the 200, she was able to improve her time in the semis, blazing an 11.01 in the first semifinal heat. That was a personal record  that placed her tenth in the semifinals. Ahoure missed out of advancing to the finals by just .05 seconds. Twenty-four runners competed in the 100 meters.
