Alysha Newman- Pole Vault

Newman holds both the Canadian and Miami records in the pole vault. Newman’s Olympic debut came last night. She competed in group B in the qualifying round. Newman skipped the opening height of 4.15 meters. The Canadian champion chose to open at 4.30 meters.  Newman cleared 4.30  and 4.45 meters. She failed to clear 4.55 meters and finished ninth in group B and 17th overall. Newman’s Canadian teammate Kelsie Ahbe advanced to the finals by clearing 4.55. The top 12 advance to the finals.
