The Fighting Irish have gotten off to a 1-2 start with tough losses at Texas to begin the season and to Michigan State last week. Their defense has been shredded the first three weeks. Notre Dame is giving up 32 points per game. That’s 97th out of 128 FBS teams. Add in a 39-10 win over Nevada week two makes that number even more glaring.

Michigan State beat the Irish 36-28 and it took 14 fourth quarter ND points to avoid a blowout. In their two games against power five schools, ND is allowing an almost unfathomable 43 PPG.

The bright spot for Notre Dame this season has been the emergence of Quarterback DeShone Kizer. Kizer and Malik Zaire were supposed to share the position. Kizer’s play gave Kelly an easy decision. Many are predicting that Kizer will be the number one pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Kizer has thrown for 715 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions and run for 126 yards and four touchdowns. Josh Adams and Tarean Folston share the running back duties and six ND players have touchdown receptions.

Duke began its season with a 49-6 victory over FCS North Carolina Central. They were upset at home 24-14 by Wake Forest week two and lost 24-13 at Northwestern last week. That was the Wildcats first win.

The Blue Devils being offense shut down the last two weeks is surprising. Under David Cutcliffe, the Blue Devils have averaged over 30 points per game the last three seasons. Duke Quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown for 611 yards the last two weeks, but no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Jela Duncan leads the Blue Devils ground game with 193 yards and three touchdowns. T.J. Rahming, Anthony Nash, and Johnathan Lloyd lead the receiving core.
