The Gators and Vols enter the game 3-0. The Hurricanes have common opponents with Florida and Tennessee.

The Volunteers first two games this season were against Appalachian State and Virginia Tech. They struggled with the Mountaineers, needing overtime to win 23-20. They beat the Hokies 45-20 in front of the largest crowd in college football history at Bristol Motor Speedway. Tennessee struggled last week in a 28-19 victory over Ohio.

The Gators are led by their defense. In wins over UMass, Kentucky, and North Texas, the Gators have allowed only 14 points. The Gators lead the country in scoring defense with an average of 4.7 PPG allowed. The ‘Canes are second at 6.7 PPG allowed.

The Gators are also first in total defense, second against the run, and the pass. The defense is led by Defensive End Jabari Zuniga who has four sacks, linebackers Alex Anzalone who has 2.5 and Jarrad Davis who has 18 tackles. The defense gives up an almost unimaginable 129.7 yards per game. Virginia Tech is next at 204.

The Gators will be without Quarterback Luke DelRio, the son of Raiders coach Jack Del Rio for 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL in his left knee. Austin Appleby who has thrown only two passes in the first two games, but played in 15 games the last two seasons at Purdue is the new starter.

Jordan Scarlett, Mark Thompson and Lamical Perine share the running back duties. Each has over 100 yards on the season. Brandon Powell and Antonio Callaway lead the receiving core.

Tennessee’s offense is led by a pair of second team pre-season All-Sec players, Senior Quarterback Josh Dobbs and Junior Running Back Jalen Hurd. Dobbs has taken all of Tennessee’s snaps at QB this season. He has thrown for 486 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

Hurd has 270 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Josh Malone is Dobbs main target. Malone has nine catches for 196 yards and four touchdowns.
