The Miami Hurricanes win over Pittsburgh broke a four game losing streak and sets them up for their easiest stretch of the 2016 ACC schedule. Miami plays its last three conference games against Virginia, North Carolina State and Duke, who have a 4-13 combined record in the ACC.

The Miami Hurricanes Bowl matchups have some interesting scenarios from various websites covering college football nationally. The marquee possibilities include Florida in the Taxslayer Bowl from SB Nation’s Jason Kirk and ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and a Belk Bowl Matchup with Georgia.

Bowl Tiers

The Hurricanes are currently tied for ninth in the ACC with Syracuse at 2-3. That puts Miami on the cusp of the first and second tier bowl games. The are primarily projected as a first tier team right now.

The only exception of that, is College Sports Madness’ projection of the ‘Canes heading to the Quick Lane Bowl. Per CSM, the ACC Bowl Slots are as follows:

1. Capital One Orange Bowl vs. Big Ten or SEC or Notre Dame
2. Russell Athletic Bowl vs. Big 12

First Tier

– Belk Bowl vs. SEC
– Hyundai Sun Bowl vs. Pac-12
– New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs. Big Ten
– Franklin American Mortgage Music City vs. SEC OR TaxSlayer vs. SEC
It’s one or the other along with the Big Ten. Last year, the ACC played in the Music City, the Big Ten was in the TaxSlayer, so the ACC most likely in the TaxSlayer.

Second Tier

– Camping World Independence Bowl vs. SEC
– Military Bowl vs. American Athletic
– Quick Lane Bowl vs. Big Ten
– St. Petersburg Bowl vs. American

Conditional Tier, if other conferences can’t fill slots

Where will Miami Wind up?

The Hurricanes have opportunity ahead of the them. Miami plays three of the ACC’s four worst teams to finish the season. The liklihood is that the only team they can realistically pass in the ACC Bowl standings order is Wake Forest. That would put Miami sixth in the ACC Standings at the end of the season.

If the ‘Canes can win out, they will finish 8-4. With all the injuries, dismissals and other players that have left the program, thats a solid first season under Mark Richt.
