The Miami Hurricanes travel to Pittsburgh for the first of three straight road games. They will face the Panthers with a two game losing streak. Miami lost last week at Syracuse and this week at Notre Dame.
The Panthers return home with their own two game losing streak. They also lost at Syracuse and followed that up with a loss at Louisville Wednesday night. Pittsburgh enters the contest with a 1-3 record in the ACC. They lost their ACC opener to Notre Dame and defeated Virginia in their second conference game. Both games were at home.
The Panthers are led by their dynamic forward tandem of Jamel Artis and Michael Young. They are the top two scorers in the ACC. Artis averages 22.8 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He exploded for 43 in the loss at Louisville. He scored 31 of the 43 in the second half.
Young enters the contest averaging 22.0 PPG, 7.8 RPG and 3.2 APG. Young had 17 against the Cardinals. Sophomore guard Cameron Johnson averages 11.8 PPG and 4.8 rpg.
Pittsburgh will be able to match Miami’s length. The Panthers top six scorers are 6’6 or taller. Pittsburgh is also a dangerous three-point shooting team. The Panthers shoot 38.4 percent on threes. They rank in the top 100 in three-point attempts made and percentage.
Pittsburgh also does an outstanding job getting to the line. They rank 29th in the country in free throws made, 37th in attempts and 99th in free throw percentage.
The Hurricanes will be facing a much stronger rebounding team than they did against Notre Dame, particularly on the Miami offensive end. The Panthers are 47th nationally on the defensive glass and 94th overall in rebounding.
