The U logo associated with the Miami Hurricanes emerged primarily out of the success that Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson’s teams had in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The list of Miami athletic greats spans numerous sports.

This is the 2000th post in Canes Warning history. The Miami Hurricanes has brought all of us joyous times and excitement. Following the U brings out all the emotions of being a dedicated sports fan or a sense of pride of being a fan of a specific team or alumnus of a University.

College Sports, especially when it’s your alma mater bring a sense of pride that following professional sports does not. When you attend or are an alumnus of a school you can say “we” and mean it.

From the Miami Hurricanes first football coach Irl Tubbs who left for Iowa after his first season in 1936 to legendary tennis coach Gardner Malloy to Mark Richt and Jim Larranaga today, Miami has had tens of thousands of athletes and athletic personnel pass through Coral Gables over its nearly century of existence.

Some have had more success than others. All have had an impact on University of Miami athletics in some way and in their own way.

To celebrate and honor Canes Warning’s 2000th post, we are going to take a look at the top 100 (114) icons in the University of Miami athletic history. Narrowing the list down to 100 was way too difficult and seemed unfair.

Narrowing down the list to 114 required the elimination of athletes that have been multiple time Olympians, but did not medal.
