16. Ed Reed (1998-2001)
Reed holds the Miami record for career interceptions with 21 and started a remarkable 48 games in his college career. He was selected an All American in 2000 and 2001.
Reed was the leader of the 2001 National Championship team that some have dubbed college football’s greatest ever. He made one of the pivotal plays during that season at Boston College.
Reed took the ball from Hurricane Defensive Lineman Matt Walters who had intercepted a Boston College Pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. It extended a 12-7 Miami lead to 18-7 to put the game away. Boston College was on the verge of taking the lead before Reed’s heroics.
Reed would eventually shine in the NFL being an Eight-time Pro Bowl selection. This 1st round selection by the Baltimore Ravens was also the 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Reed led the NFL in interceptions three times in his career, in interception return yardage and the longest return on the season twice. He finished his career with 64 interceptions, good enough for seventh all-time and first in Ravens history.
Reed will arguably be a first-ballot NFL Hall of Famer.
