7. Paul Dee
Dee began his administrative career at UM as the University’s Vice President and General Council. He became the school’s Athletic Director, succeeding Dave Maggard who left after two years leading UM’s athletic department.
In Dee’s 15 years as Athletic Director, the Hurricanes won three team national championships. They captured the 1999 and 2001 College World Series and the 2001 Football National Championship. The Hurricanes dominated the Big East Conference during Dee’s reign, capturing 23 conference titles.
Dee was instrumental in numerous key hirings at the U, including baseball coach Jim Morris, Coker and women’s basketball coach Katie Meier.
He also oversaw renovations of almost all of UM’s athletic facilities beginning in 1993. According to the Miami Sports Hall of Fame website:
"“the construction of new football practice fields, Cobb Stadium, for track and soccer, women’s basketball offices, academic study hall facilities, weight training facility, new locker rooms for track, soccer and volleyball, football meeting rooms and the Bank United Center for men’s and women’s basketball. He has also undertaken the renovation of the football locker room, equipment and training rooms”"
Dee was also on numerous NCAA committees. These included the Committee for Certification, the Management Committee and the Committee on Infractions. He was also was very active in the Big East, serving on the Executive Television Committee and was the Chair of the Big East Football Conference
Dee retired as UM’s athletic director in June of 2008 and passed away in 2012.
