2. Ron Fraser
No coach personifies the history of UM sports more than Fraser. He led the Hurricanes baseball program for 30 years from 1963-92.
Under Fraser’s guidance, the Hurricanes won two National Championships (1982 and ’85) and advanced to 20 consecutive NCAA Tournaments. That streak has grown to 44 currently.
Fraser won 1,271 games in his career, the most in Miami history. He retired as the seventh-winningest coach in college baseball history. The ‘Canes 1982 title was the first in any team sports in the state of Florida.
Fraser was named the National Coach of the Year four times and honored as the Coach of the 1980’s. Following his retirement, Fraser coach the USA in the first Olympics that featured baseball as a medal sport in Barcelona in 1992. Fraser’s number one was retired and he was a part of the inaugural class of the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
