The Miami Hurricanes Top 100 Plus Sports Icons
23. Ken Dorsey (1999-2002)
Ken Dorsey (1999-2002) has the greatest record among quarterbacks in school history. Going 38-2 as a starter, he set Big East records for passing yards (9565) and touchdowns (86). A Maxwell Award winner, Dorsey led the Hurricanes to a National Championship victory with a win over Nebraska in the 2002 Rose Bowl.
Dorsey was two controversies away from leading Miami to three straight national championships. The 2000 Hurricanes finished mere percentage points behind archrival Florida State in the BCS ranking. They beat the Seminoles in the regular season.
Most Miami fans were outraged when the Seminoles jumped Miami in the final BCS Standings. The Hurricanes had been ranked second in the previous poll and FSU third. Lurking behind the Seminoles was Florida who gave Miami its only loss.
Butch Davis’ Canes were matched up with their other intra-state rival Florida. They trumped Florida 37-20 and finished second in the country to Oklahoma who dominated FSU 13-2 to win the National Championship.
Dorsey is the Miami all-time leader with 86 touchdown passes and held the school record in yards until he was passed by Brad Kaaya in 2016.
Dorsey has tutored Cam Newton as the Carolina Panthers Quarterback coach since 2013. Newton won the NFL MVP for the 2015 season.
