21. Bernie Kosar (1982-84)

The starting Quarterback on Miami’s first National Championship team in 1983. Helped contribute to the legacy of Miami as Quarterback U. He was preceded at the position by future Pro Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly and succeeded by Testaverde.

The Hurricanes first National title occurred in one of the biggest upsets in college football history. Miami upset number one Nebraska whom many were dubbing the greatest team in college football history.

Kosar threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns in the Canes miraculous 31-30 victory. Miami jumped from fifth going into the Orange to winning the National Championship.

He is still in the top ten in multiple passing categories at Miami.Finished his two seasons as a starter with the Hurricanes throwing for 5,971 yards and 40 touchdowns. Tied with five other Miami Quarterbacks for the single-game record with five passing touchdowns in a game. His 25 touchdown passes in 1984 set a school record that has since been broken in five seasons.

He played 12 seasons in the NFL and won a Superbowl backing up Troy Aikman under his former college coach Jimmy Johnson with the Dallas Cowboys in 1993.

Kosar led the Cleveland Browns to three AFC title games in four seasons, but the Browns were never able to get past John Elway and Denver Broncos. He is third all-time in franchise history in yards passing and fourth in touchdown passes.
