Coming off of a heartbreaking loss at Louisville on Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes host Georgia Tech in a critical game for both teams.

The Hurricanes enter the game 16-8 and had won four of their last five before the loss to Louisville. The game against Georgia Tech begins a crucial stretch for the Hurricanes. Their next two and three of their next four games are at home. If Miami is going to make a run for an NCAA tournament bid, they need to win the games they are favored in.

Miami fell at Louisville after leading for most of the game. The Hurricanes jumped out to 8-0 and 22-8 first half leads. A 13-0 run late in the second half gave the Cardinals an eight point lead. Miami responded with their own 8-0 run to tie the game, but UL pulled away late for the victory.

The Hurricanes have had trouble in the second half in conference play. If they don’t get that turned around, they will be playing in the NIT next month instead of the NCAA Tournament.

Georgia Tech travels to Coral Gables with a 15-10 overall record and 6-6 in the ACC. The teams are tied for ninth in the conference. The Yellow Jackets have wins over North Carolina, Notre Dame and Florida State in conference play. All three of those wins came at home. Georgia Tech is 2-7 on the road this season.

Four Yellow Jackets average in double figures led by freshman guard Josh Okogie. Okokie averages 15.3 points per game, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. The game features a battle between two of the best freshman in the ACC, Okogie and Miami’s star freshman guard Bruce Brown. Brown and Davon Reed are likely to see time on Okogie.

The Yellow Jackets struggled offensively, but are stout on the defensive end. They are 17th nationally in field goal percentage allowing opponents to shoot just 39.2 percent from the floor. They rank fourth nationally in block shots with 157. Teams also shoot just 32.7 percent on three-point attempts, 76th in the country.

Georgia Tech Center Ben Lammers is second in the country averaging 3.2 blocks per game. He will be a load inside for Kamari Murphy. Lammers is also averaging 14.7 PPG and 9.7 rebounds. He should be one of the leading candidates for ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Quinton Stephens complements Lammers inside averaging 10.8 PPG and 7.8 RPG.
