When thoughts of the Miami Hurricanes taking on Duke comes to mind the most prevalent game in most fans minds comes from the football team’s Miracle in Durham victory in 2015. The ‘Canes and Blue Devils have also had some memorable battles on the hardwood as well.

The Miami Hurricanes and Duke’s basketball history dates to a 71-69 Miami win in their first meeting on December 21, 1962. That was their only meeting before the Hurricanes dropped basketball after the 1971 season.

The schools have met 23 times since then with the Blue Devils holding an 18-6 advantage. The Hurricanes conversely hold a 12-2 advantage on the gridiron. The “rivalry” has gotten closer lately.

Before losing in Durham last month, the Miami Hurricanes had won two in a row against Duke for the just the second time. Those wins came in single meetings during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. This season is the first time the teams are playing twice in the same season since 2011. The Hurricanes lost both of those games.

In Frank Haith’s last season, the Miami Hurricanes advanced to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) quarterfinals before losing at Alabama that year. Haith moved on to Missouri and the Hurricanes hired Jim Larranaga to replace him.
