Miami Hurricanes Basketball Five Biggest Wins Over Duke
3. Miami 96 Duke 95, 2008
After losing 88-73 at Duke earlier in the season, the Hurricanes returned the favor in front of their home crowd. Using a 15-0 run in the second half, Miami outlasted the Blue Devils in a high scoring game.
The Hurricanes 15 point un-answered run pushed a five-point lead to 20. Miami went cold later in the second half but held off a furious Duke comeback.
The Hurricanes won behind great performances from forward Dwayne Collins and guard Jack McClinton. Collins finished with 26 points and seven rebounds on 12-14 from the floor. McClinton had 22 points, shot 7-15 from the floor, 2-5 from three and made six of his seven free throw attempts.
Duke’s comeback was led by Jon Scheyer who finished with 27 points. The Hurricanes won an NCAA Tournament game that season for the first time in eight years. Duke was setting the foundation for a team that would win a National Championship two seasons later.
Like Miami, the Blue Devils were ousted in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in March. They fell to West Virginia as a second seed.
The win broke a ten game Duke winning streak in the series. It was the Hurricanes only win against Duke in a stretch of 15 meetings between the schools.
