Miami Hurricane DB transfers prove Successful.
When Mark Richt took over the Miami Hurricanes program, certain position groups had glaring depth concerns. Though the secondary was one such group, Miami has found a successful stopgap. Their transfers.
Safety Adrian Colbert lost his job to a freshman named Jason Hall at Texas. After Hall passed Colbert on the Longhorn depth chart, Colbert didn’t amass a single statistic in 2015. Colbert’s quagmire in burnt orange was solidified. The player with only one Texas career interception decided to leave the Longhorns in lieu of more playing time.
Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz initially recruited Colbert to Texas and had familiarity with him. Safeties coach Ephraim Banda was also part of that Texas staff. Ultimately Miami’s team need met a player’s opportunity and what ensued was an effective marriage on the field.
Diaz handed Colbert off effortlessly to cornerback coach Mike Rumph. Rumph’s tactical mastery was on full display as Colbert did the unthinkable. Not only did Colbert solidify a starting spot, he was a very effective member of the Hurricanes revamped defense. One program’s safety afterthought was another programs coveted starting corner.
Colbert has garnered attention across the NFL including including NFL network annalist Mike Mayock. As fate would have it, Colbert’s first game as a Hurricane saw him equaling his interception total at Texas. And though Colbert suffered some injuries during the season, his presence off the field recently showed no limitations.
