Miami Leads All-Time Series 25-10-1

The only schools Miami has played more than the Pittsburgh Panthers are in-state rivals Florida State and Florida. They have competed as conference rivals in the Big East and ACC. When one thinks of the Hurricanes biggest rivals, the Panthers don’t usually come to mind.

It has been a nondescript rivalry. There hasn’t been a late game miracle, showdowns to determine a conference title or national championship or a game that stood out over the others.

The most recent game in the rivalry, although a blowout, produced some memorable plays. David Njoku showed off his high jumping skills, Pittsburgh Quadree Henderson showed why he was named an All-American as a kick returner and the Panthers and Hurricanes both produced big plays from scrimmage.

The biggest Miami-Pittsburgh connection doesn’t involve the Hurricanes. Miami’s biggest sports legend other than Don Shula, Dan Marino became a star as a Panther before being drafted by the Dolphins in 1983. Former Hurricane legend Jim Kelly who is a Pennsylvania native like Marino went to Buffalo earlier in that same draft.
