North Carolina’s 11-9 lead in the series and .550 winning percentage are the best of any teams that the Hurricanes have played at least 20 times.
Miami’s 34-14 victory over North Carolina in 2005 came amidst one of the greatest performances in school history. Tyrone Moss literally carried the Hurricanes to victory. Moss rushed for 195 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns.
The win pushed the Hurricanes 6-1 during a season that they finished 9-3. Moss’ one game total represented nearly ten percent of his career rushing yards in college and almost 25 percent of his career touchdown total.
The 195 rushing yards are tied for eighth all time in a game by a Hurricanes and the four touchdowns are tied for third. Mark Walton became the first Miami player to rush for four touchdowns in a game since Moss when he ran for four touchdowns against Florida Atlantic in 2016.
After winning four of five meetings with the Tar Heels from 2010-2015, Miami has dropped the last two meetings with their Coastal Division Rivals. Miami returns to Chapel Hill in 2017. They lost their last trip there 59-21.
