Nine former Miami Hurricanes participated in the recently concluded NFL Combine. The combine occurred over four days in Indianapolis and included eight Hurricanes from 2016 and Quan Muhammad who was dismissed last August.
Offensive lineman Danny Isidora, punter Justin Vogel, quarterback Brad Kaaya, tight end David Njoku, wide receiver Stacy Coley, defensive lineman Al Quadin Muhammad, and defensive backs Rayshawn Jenkins, Corn Elder, and Jamal Carter performed in front of executives, coaches, and scouts of professional teams. How did they do?
Friday Results
On the first day of the combine, Danny Isidora and Justin Vogel participated in the 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, and the 20 yard shuttle. For the most part, the two players did well in their testing.
Here are Isidora’s metrics:
40 Yard Dash – 5.03 seconds (5th best for offensive lineman)
Bench Press – 26 reps
Vertical Jump – 29 inches
Broad Jump – 94 inches (7.8 feet)
Three Cone Drill – 8.13 seconds
20 Yard Shuttle – 4.90 seconds
Isidora started every game since 2014 and contributed nicely for Miami. Although his production was not obvious to many, the 6-foot-3, 306 pound guard gave the scouts solid game film in 2016 which could earn him a 4th round grade. Here is an excerpt from NFL.com on Isidora’s favorable skills:
"STRENGTHS Has size of an NFL guard with thick bubble and good arm length for interior. Big man with light feet and plus agility. Can lead the charge as pulling guard and has reactive quickness for sudden adjustments in space. Never loses sight of his second level target on work-up blocks"
Regarded as #PunterU on social media, Miami puts punters into the NFL. Matt Bosher (Atlanta Falcons) and Pat O’Donnell (Chicago Bears) are both NFL punters that played at Miami. Justin Vogel could very well be the next to keep the trend of “Punter U” alive.
Here are his results:
40 Yard Dash – 4.70 seconds (1st for Special Teams)
Vertical Jump – 34 inches (1st for Special Teams)
Regarded as pre-season All-ACC, Vogel lived up to his hype in senior season. The former walk-on punted 64 times for an average of 43.8 yards per punt. His season earned him second-team All ACC honors.
Here is an overview of what NFL.com says of Vogel:
"BOTTOM LINE Vogel doesn’t have a booming leg, but he does have a shot at getting drafted and/or making a team thanks to his accuracy and consistency on placement punts."
