Miami Hurricanes Draftees: NFL Combine Results
Saturday Results
In a very focused group by NFL teams, quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends took the field and displayed their talents. Kaaya, Coley, and Njoku are the players who represented the ‘Canes during Saturday’s drills. It could be argued that all three players helped their case for the NFL Draft in late April.
Brad Kaaya, Questions and Metrics
Let’s start off with quarterback Brad Kaaya. Kaaya. Kaaya opted to leave school after his junior year at Miami, He perplexes many scouts and NFL coaches. In Kaaya’s position drills, he showed good feet, rhythm, and made accurate passes to receivers who he has never thrown to before.
Kaaya is an all-star quarterback when there is no pressure from the defensive line and he has a clean pocket. He receives mixed reviews due to his limited athleticism, immobility in the pocket and showing inaccurate passes in the film room. This is why many thought he should return another year to clean up his skills.
Kaaya did himself no favors by not participating in any drill at the NFL Combine besides throwing. He showed some good things on the field on Saturday. Here is what NFL.com says about Kaaya:
"Groomed to be a quarterback from an early age, Kaaya flashes the mechanics and intelligence of a player who has spent hours in quarterback camps. However, he can be too mechanical and thinks too much rather than just flowing and responding to what the field offers him. Kaaya could have used another year of college, but he has the tools and intangibles to become an NFL starter. While he can work around his average arm strength, he must improve his accuracy and anticipation if he is to make a mark in the NFL."
