The Hurricanes will not match up with another ACC team, nor likely against a team they have already played this season. They are the lowest seeded seven according to the Matrix. Wisconsin, Creighton, Dayton are the other seven seeds in the Matrix.

The site Team Rankings has the Hurricanes at a 22.4 percent chance to be a ninth seed. That’s their highest probability. They have the Hurricanes as the lowest ninth seed. That seems a bit low based on the other projections.

Should the Hurricanes slip that far they would matchup with the highest eighth seed which is Wichita State. Third seeded Miami eliminated the 11th seeded Wheat Shockers in the 2016 second round.

As the lowest seeded seven, Miami would played the highest seeded ten. Per the Matrix that would be Marquette. It’s hard to see Miami being a seventh or falling to a tenth seed. It remains to be seen how the Hurricanes abysmal performance in the second half against UNC will be judged.

None of those teams are favored to win their conference tournaments. The teams on the eight line are Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wichita State. Miami moved ahead of the Cowboys from the Matrix on March 9.

The Hurricanes and Hokies split their two games this season. VATech played Florida State tough before losing their ACC Tournament quarterfinal 74-68 to Florida State.

Arkansas, Michigan, Northwestern and VCU are on the nine line. Marquette, Seton Hall, Michigan State and Providence are on the ten line.
