NCAA Bracketlogy: Five Teams Miami Hurricanes are Most Likely to Play
Marquette
Like the Razorbacks, Marquette also has a rich basketball history. They won the 1977 National Championship under Hall of Fame Coach Al McGuire. The Golden Eagles are more recently known for Dwayne Wade who led them to the 2003 Final Four and his Chicago Bulls teammate Jimmy Butler.
They are currently coached by former Duke Guard Steve Wojciechowski. Wojo is 52-44 in three seasons, but they are still seeking their first NCAA Tournament appearance under him.
Five players average in double figures and seven average at least eight PPG. Marquette’s scoring is one of deepest in the country. They also have ten players that average double digits in minutes played.
The question is who will they go to in crunch time and do they have a player to bail them out at the end of the shot clock. Guard Markus Howard leads them in scoring at 13.2 points per game. He also leads the country with a unreal 54.9 three-point percentage.
Marquette does an exceptional job sharing the ball without one player being the main facilitator. Backup guard Traci Carter averages just 16 minutes and 4.3 PPG, but leads Marquette with 3.6 APG.
The Golden Eagles rank 33rd nationally in assists at 16.5 per game. They are a very good offensive team. They rank 20th with 82.5 PPG, lead the nation in three-point shooting at 43 percent, are 6th in free throw shooting at 77.9 percent, are 11th in three-pointers made and 15th in field goal percentage.
