Miami Hurricanes Win One of Three at NCSt
The Miami Hurricanes avoided a sweep at North Carolina State when they captured the third game of the series against the Wolfpack on Sunday.
Miami scored all seven of their runs in the second and third innings after NC State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. They scored two unearned runs as the Wolfpack committed errors on the afternoon.
The offensive stars on the afternoon were rightfielder Michael Burns who had two hits and a run scored in the five hole and catcher Joe Gomez who despite hitting ninth had a hit and drove in three runs.
Michael Mediavilla got the start and the win for Miami to improve to 2-3 on the season. He went five innings, giving up four runs, two earned on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts. He lasted only five innings throwing 86 pitches.
Andrew Cabezas came on in relief and did a great job over three innings. He allowed two hits and one run and struck out three. Frankie Bartow pitched a clean ninth for his fifth save.
After winning four out of five coming into the NC State series with the offense showing signs of life, the Miami offense took a step back in the first two games of the series.
The Hurricanes had evened the scored in the opener with two runs in the top of the eighth. The Hurricanes gave the lead back when the Wolfpack scored two in the bottom of the inning against Cabezas. The loss was Cabezas second in as many decisions this season.
Jesse Lapore started for Miami and pitched seven innings allowing seven hits one walk and three runs while striking out six in 5.2 innings. Austin Staley got the win for NC State despite giving up the two tying runs in the eighth.
Romy Gonzalez went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit his fifth home run of the season, but left four men on base.

On Saturday Jeb Bargfeldt left after 2.1 innings without giving up a run and only allowing one hit. Evan McKendry came on in relief and took the loss in a 5-2 Hurricanes defeat. McKendry allowed four runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three in four innings.
The Wolfpack scored two in the fifth and three in the seventh to secure the win. Miami scored single runs in the fifth and ninth. Shortstop Brandon Gali went 2-4 with a run scored an RBI.

Next Game: Miami will host Florida Atlantic for the first of three scheduled games this season. The teams first game of the season was rained out March 1. The Hurricanes will travel to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina next weekend in three game ACC Series.
