What Will Miami Hurricanes Basketball Look Like in 2017-18
What Could Next Season’s Starting Lineup Look Like?
Brown provides the Hurricanes with toughness, versatility and a deadly scorer that can carry the team if he has to. Although not a point guard, he stepped in as the primary ball handler during Newton’s suspension and averaged 1.58 turnovers to assists.
Newton and Lawrence are the other returning starters. Newton is going to have to work on his ball handling and decision making skills. Newton’s Assist to turnover rate is 1.03 to 1. Brown was the Hurricanes most versatile player this past season. In addition to the 11.8 PPG, he also averaged 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals.
Lawrence started 18 of Miami’s 33 games this season. He was the team’s fifth leading scorer at 6.8 PPG and also put up 3.8 RPG, 1.7 APG, and 1.3 steals per game. The question will be who joins them in the starting lineup?
The two leading candidates have to be Power Forward Dewan Huell who had an inconsistent freshman season and incoming freshman McDonald’s All-American Lonnie Walker. Huell was a McDonald’s All-American last season, but was surpassed by Brown as a freshman and battled with Ebuka Izundu and Lawrence for playing time on the frontline.
Lawrence eventually earned the starting nod on the frontline with Murphy while Huell and Izundu came off the bench.
