Today is the Miami Hurricanes ProDay
Fifteen Miami Hurricanes are taking place in Pro Day today in Coral Gables. The list includes likely high round picks David Njoku and Brad Kaaya and Al-Quadin Muhammad and Jermaine Grace who were dismissed from the team last August after being involved in a rental car scandal.
With Miami’s extensive list of talent taking place at their Pro Day, all 32 teams are expected to have representatives attending. The National Football Post describes Pro Day as:
“The college pro day is where NFL draft eligible players get combine tested at their school. For those who were not invited to the NFL Combine in Indy it may be their one and only chance to be tested in Combine drills such as the 40. Once more, it’s a time where coaches and evaluators get a closer and maybe a last look at their prospects.”
Nine Hurricanes attended the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Pro Day will give the six players that did not attend a chance to showcase their skills for the first time in front of scouts in a showcase environment.
The entire list of Hurricanes participating is Safety Jamal Carter, Defensive Back Adrian Colbert, Wide Receiver Stacy Coley, Tight End/Defensive Lineman Standish Dobard, cornerback Corn Elder, Linebacker Grace, Guard Danny Isidora, Safety Rayshawn Jenkins, Quarterback Kaaya, Wide Receiver Malcolm Lewis, Defensive End Muhammad, Tight End Njoku, Punter Justin Vogel, Fullback Marquez Williams and running back Joe Yearby.
Of the 15 players participating, seven are projected to be selected in the draft. The most players Mark Richt has ever sent to the NFL was eight in 2013.
David Njoku is expected to be the first Miami player off the board. He is expected to be selected in the first round. CBS Sports lists Njoku as the second best Tight End in the draft, Alabama’s O.J. Howard is listed first.
Kaaya seemed like a sure first or second round pick when the 2016 season began. His stock seems to be falling. As the Bowl Season approached in December, CBS Sports had him as their fifth ranked quarterback.
Kaaya is currently listed as the seventh best Quarterback in the class of 2017. He is projected as a third or fourth-round draft pick.
After Njoku and Kaaya, Isidora is the most promising of the Hurricane players. He is listed as the sixth best guard per CBS Sports. He was a three-year starter for the Hurricanes. Isidora anchored an offensive line that often struggled in 2016 because of injuries. He is projected to go in the fourth round.
Jenkins was third on the Hurricanes in tackles in 2016. He is listed as the sixth best free safety in the class of 2017 per CBS Sports. His two interceptions led Miami. He tied with Elder for the lead in the secondary with 4.5 tackles for loss.
Elder is the 19th best cornerback per CBS Sports. He is projected as a fourth or fifth round pick in the draft. Elder improved his stock a lot in his Senior season leading a young defense.
Coley led the Hurricanes with 63 receptions and nine touchdown receptions this past season. He proved in 2016 that he is more than just a speedy receiver and a verticle threat. Coley became the leader of the Miami receiving corps as Freshman Ahmmon Richards became the Hurricanes big play threat.
CBS lists Coley as the 19th best Wide Receiver, the 166th best player overall and he’s projected to go in the fifth round.
Vogel is the last Hurricane with a chance to be drafted per CBS Sports. They list him as a borderline seventh round draft pick or free agent signee. Vogel averaged 43.8 yards per punt, had 33 fair catches on his punts, 25 inside the 20 and 16 punts over 50 yards.
