When you have the nation’s number one recruiting class, signing day cannot come soon enough. The Miami Hurricanes will have a chance to get the players in the class of 2018 signed about six weeks earlier than this year’s class signed.
The NCAA passed a rule earlier today that will allow for a three-day window for football players to sign letters of intent beginning December 20. Being able to wrap up the nation’s number one class before the holidays will be a nice present for Miami Head Coach Mark Richt, his staff and Miami fans.
The measure is just a part of considerable changes the NCAA is making in recruiting. Some of the other changes include the addition of a 10th assistant coach and the elimination of two-a-day practices.
Richt who was originally against an early signing period in football spoke in favor of the measure as relayed by the Miami Herald:
"“At this point I believe an early signing period, I’d like to see what would happen instead of wondering what would happen,” Richt said told 247Sports in an interview last November. “So I’m for it right now, okay, which is different than what I said in the past, and I would seriously consider to have one in the summer time along with one near the junior college signing date along with the normal time. “I think to live through it and know if we’re blowing everything up and it’s a mistake, be ready to go back if it’s possible, but I think it’s to the point now I’d like to see how well it may work because there’s so many guys that get confused at the end, they flip here, they flip there, it’s happening all over the nation.”"
