Miami Hurricanes NFL Draft Review
David Njoku TE Cleveland Browns 29th Pick 1st Round
Njoku is one of the most intriguing prospects in this year’s draft. He has freakish athleticism for his size. Njoku was a high school national champion in the high jump, ran a 4.64 40 yard dash, had a vertical jump of 37.5″ and went 11’1 in the broad jump at the NFL combine.
He joins a Browns team that desperately needs a big play threat down the field. Njoku will battle with Cleveland’s incumbent at tight end Gary Barnidge. Barnidge had 55 receptions for 612 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Their passing game was nearly inept last season. They finished 28th in yards and 30th in passing touchdowns.
Njoku left two years early for the NFL. He redshirted as a freshman and played two seasons at Miami. His ceiling in the NFL is high. ESPN’s resident NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr is high on Njoku:
“He has the size and athleticism (37½-inch vertical and 11-foot-1 broad jump at the combine) to run past and jump over defenders…He could be an All-Pro.”
Njoku is still very young. He will not turn 21 until July. ESPN’s resident draft expert Mel Kiper Jr is very high on Njoku’s ceiling.
