Rayshawn Jenkins DB Los Angeles Chargers, 4th Round, 113th Overall

Jenkins finished the 2016 season third on Miami with 85 total tackles, led the team with two interceptions and added 4.5 tackles for loss and seven passes defended.

He played safety with the Hurricanes and he will join his former teammate Perryman on the Chargers defense. Jenkins will enter the NFL as part of a legacy of great Miami defensive backs, particularly at safety. Names like Ed Reed, Sean Taylor and Bennie Blades had All-Pro careers in the NFL from the U.

The Chargers are currently three-deep at safety. They are still trying to steady the position after losing long time star Eric Weddle following the 2015 season.

Jenkins skills project more to strong safety than free safety. He is adept at run support and showed at Miami he can make big plays behind the line.

The Chargers are currently three deep at strong safety with starter Jahleel Addae and backups Adrian Phillips and Adrian McDonald. His scouting report by NFL.Com’s Lance Zierlein keyed in on Jenkins’ aggressiveness.

"“A commanding, aggressive presence on the back-end, Jenkins loves being part of “The U” and attempts to honor the history of the safety position at that school every time he steps on the field. His instincts and closing burst to the ball are just average and he will have to earn his way up the depth chart to get a shot as a two-deep safety with some box ability.”"
