Brad Kaaya QB Sixth Round Detroit Lions 215th Pick Overall
Kaaya’s plummet into the sixth round was one of the most surprising developments in this year’s draft. Eight Quarterbacks were taken ahead of Kaaya including former ACC foes Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson and Nathan Peterman.
He will be going to a team that already has one of the most proficient Quarterbacks in the NFL, Matthew Stafford. Stafford threw every pass for the Lions last season and turned 29 in February. He will be their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future barring injury.
Kaaya and Jake Ruddock will battle to be the primary backup to Stafford. The Lions don’t have another quarterback on the roster.
His fall in the draft was almost shocking. He was projected to be selected in the third or fourth round. When the 2017 mock drafts were being projected Kayaa was mentioned as possibly being the top overall pick in the draft.
It’s hard to imagine another quarterback that has fallen this far. Kaaya will likely be motivated in the pre-season to show what he can do. Ruddock began his collegiate career at Iowa and played one season at Michigan.
Kaaya is one of three offensive players chosen by the Lions this year. He will also join two former Florida Gators on the Lions roster. Despite being chosen fairly late in the draft, Kaaya should at least make the practice squad.
