Adrian Colbert DB, San Francisco 49ers, Seventh Round 229th Overall Pick

Adrian Colbert was a valuable member of Miami’s secondary in his one season with the Hurricanes. He can play both cornerback and safety. He came to Miami from Texas as a graduate transfer.

Colbert finished the 2016 season with 22 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, three passes defended and he returned his one interception for 46 yards. He had the best year of his collegiate career at Miami and nearly exceeded his statistics during his three years at Texas.

Colbert played both cornerback and safety for Miami after being primarily a safety for the Longhorns. NFL.Com’s Mike Mayock was impressed with Colbert while watching film on Corn Elder and Rayshawn Jenkins.

The 49ers have a young secondary. They selected three cornerbacks in the 2016 draft, a safety in 2015, four defensive backs in 2014 and star safety Eric Reid in 2013.

Dontae Johnson and Jimmie Ward are the incumbents at the corners. The 49ers drafted both of them in the 2014. Don Jones is the other safety opposite Reid.
