Miami Hurricanes Win Series at BC

The Miami Hurricanes got a much-needed series win at Boston College this weekend. They won the first two games of the series before dropping the final game 9-2 on Sunday.

After winning the series opener 3-0 on Friday night the Hurricanes assured themselves a series win with a remarkable comeback on Saturday afternoon.

Miami fell behind 4-1 after two innings and trailed 5-3 entering the eighth. They tied it with two in the eighth and plated nine runs in the top of the ninth to win 14-5.

After a strong game Friday night, designated hitter Hunter Tackett stayed hot. Hackett went 4-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs on Saturday. Following hitting his first home run of the season on Friday night, Tackett added his second of the season on Saturday.

The Hurricanes hit four home runs, three of which came in the top of the ninth inning. Four Hurricanes had multiple hit games with most of the damage coming from the bottom of the order.

Tackett, third baseman Edgar Michelangeli and first baseman Chris Barr went 8-13 with seven RBIs and four runs scored from the sixth through eighth spots in the lineup.

Left-handed starter Michael Mediavilla was knocked after 3.1 innings. He allowed four runs, three earned on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The Miami bullpen was spectacular. Evan McKendry came on to initially settle down the Boston College offense. He went 2.1 innings allowed one unearned on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Andrew Cabezas pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth allowing three hits and striking out two to get the win. The Hurricanes bullpen pitched 5.1 innings allowing one unearned run on six hits and one walk while striking out six.

On Sunday the Eagles broke open a tight game late to cruise to the 9-2 win. Leading 4-2 entering the seventh, BC scored three in the seventh and two in the eighth for the win.

Greg Veliz made his second straight weekend start. He went six innings allowing four runs, all earned on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Boston College first baseman Gian Martellini went 2-4 with a home run and four RBIs. His three-run shot in the first put BC ahead for good. Boston College starter Brian Rapp went seven innings for the Eagles to get the win. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The loss dropped Miami to 22-22 overall and 12-11 in the ACC. They are off during the week before hosting Bethune-Cookman this weekend. It’s a critical series with the Hurricanes still clinging to faint hopes of making the NCAA Tournament.

Next: Miami Wins Series Opener at 3-0 Boston College

They will conclude the schedule with a three-game road series at number 11 Virginia the following weekend, will host Florida Gulf Coast May 16 and finish the regular season hosting Virginia Tech.
