Ray Lewis-NFL Career

Lewis’ career transcends stats, but he made an immediate impact as a rookie in 1996. He finished his inaugural NFL season with 15 tackles for loss to the lead NFL and his 110 tackles led the Ravens. He also finished the season with two and a half sacks, six pass deflections, and an interception.

His second NFL season was nearly a record setter. He finished the season with 184 tackles, the second most in NFL history. Tackles did not become an official NFL statistic until 2001. He also finished the season with four sacks and 11 pass deflections. He was named to the first of 13 career pro bowls after the season.

Lewis led the league with 168 tackles in 1999. A year later he led what some consider to be the best defense in NFL History. Lewis finished the 2000 season with 136 tackles and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP.

The Ravens finished the season with four shutouts and set the single season record with 970 rushing yards allowed. Lewis retired from the NFL after the 2012 season and a second Super Bowl title for the Ravens.

He is one of the most decorated linebackers in NFL history.
