2001 NFL Draft- Dan Morgan and Damione Lewis

Coming off an 11-1 season, four Miami Hurricanes went in the first round. The most amazing thing about this is that the Hurricanes followed up losing four first round picks with perhaps the greatest team and season in College Football History.

Middle linebacker Dan Morgan was the heart of the defense and the Hurricanes also had to replace a pair of pair of future all-pro receivers Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne. Defensive tackle Damione Lewis was the fourth Miami player to go in round one.

Dan Morgan LB Carolina Panthers 11

Dan Morgan was a multiple award winner at Miami. He is one of the greatest linebackers in school history. Morgan spent seven years in the NFL before having to retire after attempting to play for the New Orleans Saints in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Morgan’s greatest season as a pro came in 2004 when he was named first team All-Pro. He finished that season with 101 tackles, four passes defended and two interceptions.

Damione Lewis DT Selected 12 by St. Louis Rams

After redshirting as a freshman, Lewis started his redshirt freshman season and contributed 72 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble. Lewis finished his Miami career by starting 41 of the 43 games he played in. He finished 220 total tackles, 15.5 sacks and five forced fumbles.

Lewis earned third team All-American in his senior season. He played ten years in the NFL with the Rams, Panthers, Patriots and Texans. His best season in the NFL came in 2004 with the Rams when he had five tackles and 36 total tackles.
