Canes Warning is committed to breaking down the Miami Hurricanes roster for the upcoming 2017 season. Today we will look at Red-shirt Sophomore Quarterback Malik Rosier.

Malik Rosier is the only quarterback on the Hurricanes roster that has any game experience. Experience is the operative term. Rosier has only one career start under his belt. A stunning multi lateral phenomenon win versus Duke on the road.

Rosier was impressive against the Blue Devils amassing 272 yards on 20-29 passing. Then offensive coordinator James Coley tailor made a game plan that seemed to accentuate Rosier’s strengths.

Whereas Brad Kaaya was enlisted to employ a multiplicative passing approach, Rosier was tasked to employ run-pass options concepts.

Mark Richt has made it a focus to have some more playmaking ability at the quarterback position. Extend-ability, when the pocket breaks down, is a quintessential staple that can extend drives. Rosier is from “Mobile” Alabama so it made sense that Richt gave Rosier the majority of the first-team reps this spring.

Geographical assertiveness aside, Rosier’s mobility was on full display last year in the 2015 season opener versus Bethune-Cookman. He rushed for 65 yards including a 19-yard rushing touchdown. Rosier also recorded a 46 yard rush versus the Blue Devils in 2016 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
