Will we see a Miami Hurricane Freshman Starting QB?
We simply do not know what Perry is capable of until this summer. Waiting on the other side of the practice line is one of the ACC’s best defenses.
Miami has a formidable front seven who keeps offensive coordinators up at night. If Perry moves the ball consistently vs them, he starts sooner rather than later.
Gone is the day where a Mark D’Onofrio led defense gave you more space on the practice field than a friend zone acquaintance. That defense will make it difficult even for the young talented Perry and will make no excuses about it. Manny Diaz’s job is not to make Perry comfortable. It is to make him miserable.
Miami’s defense will negate Perry’s opportunity to line up as the opening day starter. The defense will humble him and initially give him fits. A refinement and tempering period will be needed on the Greentree Practice Fields before a coronation occurs at Hard Rock Stadium.
Eventually, it will happen. Eventually, number five will electrify the crowd. This season we just need to pump the breaks a little. At least for now. Miami quarterbacks struggled mightily against its defensive counterpart this spring. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Perry wouldn’t suffer a similar fate.

Rosier or Shirreffs will begin the season in a starting capacity but ultimately its Perry’s job when he’s ready. Perry is just too talented and has tools the other quarterbacks on the roster do not. The young gunslinger also has an ace up his sleeve. Unequivocally Perry was “Richt’s guy.” Perry’s competition cannot say that.
