Miami has seemed to have done enough in the last week to state a strong case for an at-large bid. Friday’s win over Wake Forest moved Miami from 47th to 39th in the RPI. In their last bracket projection on Wednesday, Baseball America has the Hurricanes as one of the last four teams in the tournament.

D1Baseball.Com expands on the RPI posted on the NCAA website. Miami might have saved their record-setting 44-year streak in the NCAA tournament in ACC play. They struggled to a pedestrian 12-13 record in their non-conference schedule.

The Hurricanes RPI of 100 in non-conference games is the lowest by far of the teams with an RPI currently in the top 50 overall. Their Non-Conference strength of schedule was 17th.

The Hurricanes did most of their damage at home posting a 19-13 record at Mark Light Field. They went 9-13 on the road and 2-1 in neutral site games.

The win against Wake Forest is certainly going to help, but Miami struggled against the nation’s best teams in 2017. The Hurricanes went 5-12 against teams 1-25 and 2-4 against teams 26-50.

What might help Miami is their strength of schedule, They did not play any games against teams ranked 200th or below in the RPI.

Miami was 13-7 against teams 51-100 and 10-4 against teams 101-200. How will their overall record of 6-16 against top 50 teams play with the committee?
