Miami Hurricanes Fans Need to be More Appreciative of Jim Morris
The Miami Hurricanes 44-year streak of NCAA Baseball appearances came to an end on Monday. That end gave rise to the trolls calling for the ouster of Head Coach Jim Morris.
The Miami Hurricanes 44-year NCAA Tournament streak was the longest in the history of the NCAA for any sport. Miami accomplished the feat under three Head Coaches.
The first 25 years in the streak came under the architect of the program Ron Fraser, Brad Kelley spent one season at the helm in 1993 after Fraser retired. Morris led the ‘Canes to 23 straight tournaments after taking over in 1994.
During his 24 seasons in Coral Gables, Miami has gone 1,062-446-3. Their 13 College World Series appearances are more than any other program in that time. The Hurricanes also have an additional four Super Regional Appearances in that time.
This was a tough season. It included some losses that UM has not had in most seasons. The calling for Morris’ ouster by many fans is wrong, short sided and uses selective memory. Those fans are focusing too much on this season. They seem to forget that the Hurricanes advanced to Omaha the two seasons prior to this one.
