Former Miami Hurricanes Star James Jones in 7th Straight NBA Finals
For most of his team’s runs in the playoffs the last seven years, Jones has been more of a locker room presence than productive on the court. He hasn’t reached double figures in a playoff game since he scored 17 in game two of the Eastern Conference finals against Chicago in 2015.
Jones was a star for the Miami Hurricanes from 1999-2003. Jones was a reserve on the 1999-2000 team that advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
He averaged 3.9 PPG and 1.5 assists per game as a freshman on that team. He became a key part of the team as a Sophomore. Leonard Hamilton had moved on to take the Head Coaching job with the Washington Wizards. Perry Clark took over for the 2000-01 season.
Jones was the third leading scorer as a sophomore. He averaged 11.9 points per game, led the team in three-point shooting at 47.1 percent and shot 81.1 percent from the line. His three-point percentage that season remains a single-season school record.
Jones improved his points per game each season he was in college. Jones took his biggest leap in 2003 as a Senior. After the departure of star John Salmons, Jones teamed with Darius Rice to carry the scoring load.
