Mark Richt has made a huge impact on the Miami Hurricanes in his year plus in Coral Gables. Richt’s impact has been felt both on and off the field. The national media has started to take notice.

Richt and the Miami Hurricanes earned their first bowl victory in ten years in 2016, they have raised $32 million towards getting the Soffer athletic facility built and they currently have the number one recruiting class for 2018.

Miami Hurricanes football is on the rise. They seem to be headed towards returning to the elite of college football. Miami has a very good recruiting class coming in this fall. By 2018, the Hurricanes should be among the most talented teams in the country.

The sports website The Spun has taken notice and has a pair of articles highlighting the Hurricanes rise in the ranks of college football. They recently dubbed the Miami Hurricanes as one of “The 10 College Football Programs With The Brightest Futures” and “Top 10 College Football Recruiting Classes Of 2018, Right Now”

When discussing the Hurricanes future, The Spun says:

"“Miami is destroying the entire country when it comes to recruiting. The Hurricanes already have 18 commits in their 2018 class, with a staggering total of 12 four-star commits. While recruiting isn’t a direct indicator of success moving forward, it’s hard not to get excited about a team with this much talent coming in.”"

The Spun used 247Sports’ composite rankings when they took a look at the top classes for 2018. The article mentions:

"“We’ve seen a number of big recruits make their decisions over the last few weeks, and as a result, we’ve seen a shake-up at the top of the recruiting rankings.”"

The changes have not affected Miami’s place on top of the recruiting rankings. The Hurricanes have been at the top for several months. Miami is one of two ACC teams in the top ten. Florida State’s class of 2018 is seventh.

The Spun’s take on Miami’s top-ranked class was:

"“Miami is out ahead with its already-large recruiting class, but we’ve seen this from the Hurricanes in recent years as well. The U works hard to lock kids up early, though it can be difficult to hang on to all of them for months before National Signing Day, especially as other big programs look to flip recruits.”"

Although the Hurricanes have the top ranked class, they do not have it’s most talented according to The Spun and 247.

"“(Ohio State) probably has the most talented class thus far. 247’s average player rating score gives Ohio State a 95.8, way above Miami (91.53).”"

The highest ranked player in Miami’s class of 2018 is running back Lorenzo Lingard. Lingard is ranked tenth overall in the class of 2018. He is also the third-ranked running back and the fifth-ranked player in Florida.

Miami is still after several undecided recruits in the class of 2018. Among those is the second-ranked player in the class, Patrick Surtain Junior. He is the son of former Dolphins cornerback Patrick Surtain Senior.

The added plus for Miami is that the NCAA added an early signing period in December this year. The Canes will get a chance to lock up many players before the bowl season.
