Golden State First NBA Title led By Former Miami Star Rick Barry

Golden State won their first-round series in six games over the then Seattle Supersonics. That set up an epic showdown with the Chicago Bulls who then resided in the Western Conference.

The Warriors needed to come from behind in the series and in game seven to advance to the finals. The Bulls won game five at Golden State. They returned home with a chance to win the series.

After falling behind by seven at the end of the first quarter in game six, the Warriors dominated the remainder of the game. Led by Barry, the W’s outscored the Bulls 28-13 in the second quarter to lead 46-38 at halftime.

Golden State put the game away in the fourth quarter outscoring the Bulls 19-12. That returned the series to Oakland for game seven. Barry led all scorers with 36 points.

The Bulls took control of game seven in the first half. They had 21-16 and 26-20 advantages in the first two-quarters of to lead 47-36 at halftime.

The Warriors were able to wear down the Bulls in the second half. Golden State’s bench outscored the Bulls 26-3 and played 82 minutes to the Bulls 25. Barry had 22 points and seven rebounds. He was helped out by Keith Wilkes who had 23 points and eight boards.
