The win propelled the Warriors to the NBA Finals where they were a huge underdog. The Washington Bullets finished the regular season 60-22. They advanced with six-game series win over the defending champion Boston Celtics who also won 60 games in 1975.

Washington asserted its dominance early in game one. They led 27-17 after one-quarter and 54-40 at halftime.

Golden State dominated the second half. The Warriors outscored the Bullets 31-18 in the third quarter and 61-41 in the second half to earn a 101-95 victory at the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland.

Due to scheduling conflicts in the Bay Area, games, two and three would be on the Warriors home court. Barry had 25 points, five assists and three steals in game one.

After falling behind by 13 points in game two, the Warriors came roaring back. Behind 36 points from Barry, the Warriors took the lead with six seconds left. Washington missed two shots to win the game and Golden State was up two games to none.

Barry exceeded his game two output by scoring 38 points in game three. He added four rebounds, six assists and five steals. The Warriors won 109-101 in game three to take a three-zero stranglehold on the series.
