Miami Hurricanes 2002 NFL Draft Continued Legendary Streak
Bryant McKinnie Seventh Overall to Minnesota
McKinnie was a first team All-American during his two years playing at Miami. He redshirted his first season after transferring to the Hurricanes as a Junior college transfer from Lackawanna College.
McKinnie put on 70 pounds during his two seasons in Junior college. Mc Kinnie was a defensive tackle in high school who switched to offense at Lackawanna.
He protected Ken Dorsey’s blindside and helped him become a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist. McKinnie is the most accomplished lineman in Miami history. In his two seasons, the Hurricanes went 23-1 and he never allowed a sack.
In 2001, McKinnie won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman, finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy and earned Sports Illustrated’s Player of the Year.
As a rookie, McKinnie started in seven of the eight games he played. Beginning with his second season, McKinnie started 80 consecutive games. He missed four games during the 2008 season to end the streak. He then started every game from 2009-2011 with the Ravens and Vikings.
McKinnie played 12 seasons in the NFL with Minnesota, Baltimore, and Miami. He started 162 of the 171 games he played in during his career. McKinnie was named an All-Pro with the Vikings after the 2009 season and won a Super Bowl with the Ravens after the 2012 season.
