Phillip Buchanon 17th Overall to the Oakland Raiders

Buchanon was part an elite Miami secondary that featured future NFL players Antrel Rolle and Ed Reed. The 2001 Miami defense allowed just 138.2 passing yards per game.

Buchanon was second on the team to Reed with five interceptions. He returned them for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Buchanon was also a stellar punt returner in 2001. He averaged 15 yards per return and added another two touchdowns. Buchanon also had three kickoff returns for 90 yards.

He led the Big East in punt return average, yards and touchdowns in 2001. Buchanon finished first in the nation in punt return touchdowns and seventh in yards that season. He earned first-team All-American from the Associated Press after the 2001 season.

Buchanon played ten years in the NFL with five different teams. He last three years in Oakland. The Raiders traded him to the Texans for a second and third round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

After Houston, he played with Tampa Detroit and Washington. Buchanon retired after finishing the 2011 season with the Redskins.

He finished his career with 20 interceptions, eight forced fumbles, and 12 fumble recoveries. He led the NFL with two interception return touchdowns in 2003.
