Before becoming the secondary coach at his alma mater, Rumph became the third member of the Hurricanes legendary secondary to be a first round pick in 2002.

Rumph finished the 2001 season with 28 tackles, three tackles for loss, and eight pass breakups. He concluded his Miami career with 117 tackles and six interceptions.

He would play five years in the NFL. After four years in San Francisco, Rumph played his final season in Washington.

Rumph’s best season as a professional came during his second season in 2003. He had three interceptions and seven pass breakups.

Originally drafted as a cornerback, Rumph was switched to safety. He struggled in coverage and was a good tackler.

As a coach Rumph initially made his name as the Defensive Coordinator and then Head Coach at American Heritage High School in Planation. He won two state titles there as Head Coach in Football and added one in track. Rumph just completed his first season as a Miami assistant.
