DT William Joseph 25th Overall to New York Giants

Joseph began his Miami career as a redshirt Freshman in 1998. He quickly became a key part of the Hurricanes defense. Joseph started every game of his Miami career. That began by starting all 11 games in his first season on the field in 1999.

Joseph as a force on the Hurricanes 2001 National Championship team. He finished the 2001 season with 61 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, ten sacks and four forced fumbles.

For his collegiate career, Joseph had 200 tackles, 47 tackles for loss 75 quarterback hurries19.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and 10 passes broken up.

Like his linemate McDougle, Joseph never lived up to his lofty potential in the NFL. He played 69 games, starting 17 in six seasons in the NFL. Joseph finished his career with 88 tackles, seven sacks and seven passes defended.

Joseph missed the entire 2007 season with an injury. He would earn a Super Bowl ring when the Giants completed the season with the first of two titles over the New England Patriots.

Joseph signed with the Oakland Raiders for the 2008 season. Joseph lasted just two seasons in Oakland. Playing in just 14 seasons, Joseph recorded 16 tackles. The 2009 season was Joseph’s last in the NFL.

The next season’s draft would see an unprecedented and currently unmatched six Hurricanes be selected in the first round. The was also the last year of Miami dominance. The Hurricanes defeated Florida State in the Orange before leaving the Big East for the ACC. Miami hasn’t been back to a major bowl since.
