The Miami Hurricanes followed that with another National Title in Dennis Erickson’s first season in 1989. Two seasons later Miami and Florida State met in Tallahassee in what was dubbed the game of the century.

Moment(s) number 87 on the list will provide Hurricanes fans with much happier memories. After two years of frustration, the Hurricanes finally broke through under Johnson winning his first National Championship in 1987.

Four seasons later the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State met ranked number one and number two in the country. It marked the sixth season in a row Florida State and Miami played when both were ranked in the top ten.

Miami drove for a late touchdown to take the lead. Behind Casey Weldon, the Seminoles marched back down the field and were in position to win. Florida State kicker Gerry Thomas had been three for three on short field goals earlier in the game.

Thomas had maybe the most (in)famous miss in college football history. Miami won the game and went on to share the National Championship with Washington.

The following season Miami and Florida State met in week six with the Hurricanes ranked number two and the Seminoles number three. Both Miami and FSU came into the game undefeated.
