Miami Hurricanes history in MLB All-Star Game

Mike Piazza 1993-2002, 2004-05

Piazza only spent one season in a Miami Hurricanes uniform. After not getting much playing time in his one season in Coral Gables in 1987, the future Hall of Fame Catcher transferred to Miami-Dade Community College.

When Piazza was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame last summer he became the first former Miami Hurricanes player to do so. Piazza played in 12 MLB All-Star games during his Major League career. His first appearance came in his rookie season in 1993.

Piazza made the All-Star team by hitting .317 with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs in the first half. Piazza made the National All-Star team in his first ten seasons in the Major Leagues. He missed the 2003 game with injuries. He then made it again in 2004 and 2005 for the final time.

In 25 career All-Star At-bats Piazza hit .240 with two home runs and five RBIs. He won the 1996 All-Star game MVP. Playing in his hometown at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Piazza homered, doubled and drove in two runs in three at-bats for the National League.

His home run gave the National League a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second off of the Indians Charles Nagy. Piazza added to the scoring with a double that scored Reds Shortstop Barry Larkin in the third to stretch the lead to 3-0.  He stayed in the game through the top of the sixth inning before leaving.

Piazza also hit a solo home run in the 1995 All-Star game. His first RBI in an All-Star game came in 1994. He also drove in a run in 2002. Piazza was 0-2 in his final appearance in an All-Star game in 2005.
